ABOUT HAVING A BALL

The story, the stats and some photos.

The Story

Ever since my first bucket shot goal as a five year old, basketball has been a huge part of my life. It is an absolute privilege to share my love of the game with other players, coaches and parents with the hope they will gain as much from this great game as I have.

A big moment in my coaching career occurred when I landed the role of Stadium Manager in Horsham. As a very fresh 21 year old I was in for a sharp learning curve. One of these early learnings was trying to run my first term of Aussie Hoops. I was handed some dusty old documents with some drills and games and thrown into the deep end...where I almost drowned!!! I'll never forget that first session. Nervous, sweaty and lacking confidence, I followed the program and within five minutes I had twin brothers in fight, two kids asking to go home, one child with an icepack from a ball to the nose and I still had 55 minutes to go.

Ever since that character building first Aussie Hoops session I have been on a relentless pursuit to find the best possible ways to build young players skills, engagement, character and love of the game in an environment where they are 'Having a Ball'.

I will never forget how it felt to be a coach out of their depth. It's a horrible feeling! I have been on a mission to combine my basketball and teaching knowledge to provide engaging, evidence based coaching clinics and resources so coaches can go from daunted to delighted when they step onto a basketball court. Coaches can make or break a players experience of basketball and the more I am able to help coaches, the more I hope players will love the game and gain all the benefits it has to offer.

Until next time, keep Having a Ball.
